News for Stupid People

We’re about to have another four to six inch snow storm. So get ready for another flurry of “stories for stupid people” from some of the local media.

By that I mean the stories which admonish us to “not follow too closely” behind other cars, or “bundle up” against the cold. As if we didn’t know that stuff. Folks, we live in Northeast Indiana. If we haven’t figured out the cold and snow yet, we really haven’t been paying attention.

That’s why I have directed our staff to avoid reporting the obvious. They will explore why INDOT hasn’t cleared the roads quickly and effectively. And they will report the unique impact of any particular winter storm. But they will not deliver the usual litany of “winter weather tips” that seem to clutter all the storm coverage on the other local media.

That stuff is just news for stupid people.

    Jim:

You really struck a nerve with this one. I was laughing with my sister last weekend at some of the online headlines, like “Cold weather causes frozen pipes” and “Temperatures to rise this afternoon thanks in part to the sunshine”.

    Ya think?

That did make me curious, though, to find out what “part” of temperatures rising was NOT thanks to the sunshine.
